Design a Kitchen Tile Backsplash

Whether you are remodeling and updating your kitchen or planning your dream home make sure you take the time to design your backsplash so that you will have the look you want. When it comes to options, you are only limited by your imagination.
Tile comes in a huge variety of color, styles, textures and sizes. Spend some time in a local tile store or home do-it-yourself center looking at your options and what's available before you make any decisions. By designing and creating your backsplash your kitchen will reflect your personality. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Take complete measurements of the area that needs to be covered. Be precise in measuring. Use a tape measure for accuracy. Using graph paper draw this area out to scale.

    • 2

Take a copy of this diagram to the tile store and use your imagination in combining different tiles to create a pattern or design. Sketch out your ideas.

    • 3

When choosing your tile you need to consider the colors in your cabinetry, paint, granite or other counter tops, and flooring. Take samples home to see how it will look in your lighting. If you have tile flooring you might want to use the same tile in a smaller size for some of your backsplash. Combine different colors for effect.

    • 4

Use decorative pieces for borders or accents. Lay your tile in different directions to create a unique pattern.

    • 5

Once you have your tile picked out and a basic design, graph it out to exact measurements. Make sure you allow for grout spacing in your measurements. After you have it completed you are ready to purchase your tile!
