You're going to learn how to make hand painted pendants and pins, magnets or barrettes

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • your hand painted pieces
  • a super strong glue like Super Glue or Weldbond adhesive
  • barrette blanks, pins backs or silver bails (for pendants), all available at craft stores like Michaels
  • strong magnets, assorted sizes
  1. Step 1

First read my other ehow article on how to achieve a unique hand paint look. Link is posted below.
Now you need to choose some pieces of nipped or broken white china..nothing too large or heavy. Either sand the edges smooth using glass or ceramic sand paper, your Dremel (and then sand) or run your pieces through a tumbler up to 6 hrs using heavy grit. Photo shows china before tumbling.

  2. Step 2

After you've selected pieces appropriate for what you want to make and attach to your blank (cuff links, barrette, pin back, magnet or glue on silver bail), paint them up using funky designs and patterns. If you're a creative artist, this part is easy.
Something as funky as a plain background with colored dots over top is fun! What about stripes?
After your painting is complete and sealed (do seal your work for this kind of project), according to the directions given in the other link, you're ready to create by gluing and attaching to magnets, or whatever blank you'd like.
You can find blanks on Ebay or in craft stores.
Just remember when making barrettes, that someone is going to be wearing this so choose a tumbled piece petite enough that they won't feel like they're wearing a rock on their head!

  3. Step 3

Finished pendants are attractive, whimsical and functional wearable art that lasts a lifetime. What a one of a kind gift for family or loved ones.
Cat pin/magnet was done on fired ceramic bisque (available on Ebay).

  4. Step 4
