Things You'll Need:
- Flower and seed catalogs
-
Step 1
PLANT AT THE RIGHT TIME - The best time to plan a Fragrant Spring Garden is in the fall. That is the best time to pick out and plant bulbs, like tulips, daffodils and crocus. You can also get plants 1/2 price at most nurseries and Garden Centers, as they go on sale at the end of the season. If you want to get started now, the best way to get a quick show of flowers and fragrance is to go to your local nursery or Garden Center. You can buy young or mature plants and get them in your garden right away.
-
Step 2
Fragrant Spring GardenFOLLOW THE SERENDIPITY PLAN - If you like spontaneity, Walk down the aisles of your garden center. When you smell something delicious, stop, breathe deep, and see what it is. If you love it in the store, you will love it in your garden. Check to see what the plant's growing habits are and if it will fit into your garden space.
-
Step 3
Fragrant Spring GardenFOLLOW THE THOUGHTFUL - If you like to plan ahead, Start in the Fall as mentioned above, but continue your research all the year round. Look through seed and nursery catalogs in winter. Order seeds and plants for Spring. Draw up a garden plan, taking into account color of blooms, season of blooms and growing habits. Try to choose plants that will provide a continuous wave of color and fragrance all through the season.
-
Step 4
Fragrant Spring GardenLOCATE SOME OF THESE SPRINGTIME FAVORITES - Use some of my favorite plants for a fragrant Spring garden are:
Carpet grower: Creeping Phlox, Alyssum, Hyacinth.
Shrubs: Peonies, Lilacs, Forsythia, Scotch Broom.
Trees: Crabapple, Pear, Cherry, Magnolia
Plant flowers so that you will have a mass of color and to increase the effect of fragrance concentration also.
