Is there water seepage in your basement that comes in every time it rains. This usually means the drain pipe on the outside of the foundation wall is not draining like it's suppose to be.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drill, 1/2 inch drill bit, and channeling that you can buy in a kit from many home improvement stores.
  1. Step 1

Drill weep holes into the hollow of the cinder block wall at the base of the floor with a 1/2 inch drill bit. Drill two holes in each base block about 6 inches away from the edge. If you have poured walls use a hydraulic cement to fill vertical cracks. Do not fill the bottom two inches with hydraulic cement these will serve as weep holes into your drainage system.

  2. Step 2

Set inside and outside corners into place, place 5 foot lengths into position. Cut connecting pieces with a miter cut. Assemble sections of channel with connectors that were provided in the set. Use an epoxy adhesive to assemble connectors and sections of channel. Leave a two inch gap close to your sump pump so that you can create a levy to control the flow of water.

  3. Step 3

After all your joints and seams are sealed and you have joined the whole system in to one track use a waterproof epoxy. You can do this even when the floor is wet, your epoxy will still adhere and dry.

  4. Step 4

Finally, where you have left your gap in the channel run two small beads directly too your sump pump whole. This will form a levy for your channeled water to flow into your sump system.

on 4/1/2009 Thanks for this article on installing a water channeling system~ I don't have basement water, but I do have an area that forms a lake in my yard every time it rains... I'm going to try applying the same idea to my lawn. 5*
