Dating a gamer can be challenging for many people. You must understand what gaming is about before you can try to date a gamer. Gaming has become a hobby for some and a sport for others. Video games are not just for young kids anymore. Here are some tips on how to date a gamer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start out by getting to know the person. See how much this person plays and what kind of video games this person plays. There are many different types of video games that take different amounts of time and dedication. If this person plays MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) like World of Warcraft then you will need to understand that this will take up much of this person's time. Other games like FPS (First Person Shooter) games will not take up as much time. This will help you get a better feel for how much time they will spend playing video games.

  2. Step 2

See if this person plays video games as a hobby or as a sport. Many people play video games just as a hobby but some people actually play video games as sports. Many places will hold local tournaments for video games and if you are good enough, you can earn some money depending on the size of the tournament. Playing video games as sports is the same as any other sport minus the physical activity. This person will need to practice so that they can make sure they are at the top of their game when it comes time for a tournament. You will need to respect this person's time while they are practicing.

  3. Step 3

Work out a schedule with this person. Make sure that you have time for everything that you need to take care of first and then make sure that this person has enough time for their video games and enough time for you. Do not try to pull this person away from gaming because it is something that they are passionate about. Imagine your favorite thing in the world, now imagine that someone told you that you could never have that again. How do you think you would feel? If you are dating a gamer, you need to allow them to do the things that they want to do. Do not try to change someone into something that they are not because it will not work out in the end.

  4. Step 4

Try to include yourself in some of the gamer's activities. This does not mean that you have to become a gamer yourself but show interest in some things that you may like. Try playing the video games that the gamer plays and at least see if you are interested. Doing this will show that you have at least made an effort to be interested in the same things. You may not be into the same things but if you are interested in this person then you will need to make sacrifice, just like they will.

  5. Step 5

If you are not interested in any of the games that this person plays, pick up your own hobby. There are many different things that you can be doing while this person is playing video games. Find something that interests you and spend this time making yourself happy by doing things that you love. This will allow both people to spend time doing what they love without having to worry about the other person being bored.
