Everyone is going green, and that's a good thing. There are many different ways that you can make your house more energy efficient, here are some ways to "go green" at home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To do a simple energy efficient upgrade on your home, consider purchasing a solar water heater. It is initially expensive to purchase, but it will save you money in the long run by reducing your water heating bills significantly.

  2. Step 2

When you are doing energy efficient home upgrades, consider using recycled material when it comes to replacing floors, countertops, etc. Choosing reused material is just one mare way to reduce your carbon footprint.

  3. Step 3

Program your thermostats on a schedule that allows the house to use less heating or cooling energy while you are sleeping, away at work, etc. It's a simple energy efficient change that can trim a significant amount off of your monthly bill.

  4. Step 4

Another energy saving upgrade is to replace your windows in order to save on heating and cooling costs in your home. There is actually a tax rebate for those looking to do this home energy-efficient improvement.

  5. Step 5

Reduce the amount of water you use and waste by making the simple, cheap green upgrade of a more efficient shower head and toilet (if yours are older). The newer versions use less water, therefore saving you money.

  6. Step 6

Seek the assistance of a professional in order to ensure proper insulation of all exterior walls of your house. Sealing all air leaks can also be a part of a simple energy efficient upgrade on your home.

  7. Step 7

Make your bills and home green by buying a new washer and dyer. The new appliances are less energy consuming than their older counterparts and they use less water.

  8. Step 8

There are many different residential green energy grants that are available for people looking to do green upgrades. Do yourself a favor by tapping into all of the resources out there to make going green less expensive. See article below for more information.
