Before you roll your eyes and reach for the cereal, try to think outside the "box". Here are a few simple suggestions to send your family off with a nutritious, tasty breakfast in five minutes or less, with very little clean-up too!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • box of rolled oats
  • dozen eggs
  • cheese
  • fresh fruit
  • yogurt
  • fruit juice
  • loaf of whole grain bread
  • butter
  1. Step 1

One Pan Eggs: Melt some butter in the frying pan with one hand and put toast in the toaster with the other. (While you are waiting for these, pour yourself some java) Crack your eggs right in the pan and scramble. Add salt and pepper, and some sliced cheese. Stir and flip. While you are waiting, butter the toast. If you want, just cook them sunny side up and blanket with sliced cheese. This will be done in just a few minutes. If everyone is running late, wrap up in foil and send "to go".

  2. Step 2

Oatmeal With Toppings: Pour oats and water in microwavable bowl as per box directions. Cook on high for 2 minutes. Add desirable toppings such as a sliced banana,(or any fruit) and drizzle of honey. Nice, hot comfort food to face the cold, cruel world.

  3. Step 3

Smoothies: For each smoothie pour a half glass of fruit juice in blender. Add a cup of yogurt, fresh fruit (granny smith apples, strawberries, and kiwi are great choices) and a couple of ice cubes. Blend away! You can also make a milk, banana and yogurt combo. Be creative! (I sneak in a spoon of protein powder too.) Great for the "everyone woke up late" mornings. Hand out in paper cups as they are running out the door.

Tips & Warnings
  • These are just a few suggestions. I've found that it takes very little effort to send the family out with a good breakfast, which is the most important meal of the day. Have fun!
