Front load washing machines are great! They use less energy, they have great options, and a sleek design. The drawback, however, is after a few washes, there is a sour smell left in your machine. I will tell you how to get it out.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • front load washer
  • cleansing wipes
  • baking soda
  • vinegar
  • paper towels
  1. Step 1

You will notice that when you open your front loading washing machine that there is a rubber strip that may have a little bit of water in it- this is the source of the smell.

  2. Step 2

Take some paper towels and dry the area. Now fold your paper towel in half, and put vinegar on one side. With the vinegar side down, clean the entire rubber strip- bottom, top and sides.

  3. Step 3

Dry the area again. Once dry Pour a small amount of baking soda on the bottom rubber strip area, smooth it around with a dry paper towel.

  4. Step 4

Leave the door of the front loading washing machine cracked open to let it air out. Leaving it cracked open between washing cycles can also help to alleviate the smell.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use washcloths instead of paper towels, and then throw them into the dryer.
  • Clean the washing strip once a week- for best results
