Making a child's Easter Basket is a special project that is lots of fun. You can make it completely custom by deciding what you would like to put in it and you can control how much you will be spending on the basket. Here are some tips on how to make a child's Easter Basket.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your choice of snacks, toys and decorations as listed in article.
  1. Step 1

It's easy to go over board and put too much in the basket, so decide on your budget before you go out and make a list of what you are looking for. Such as, basket, grass, ribbon, snacks, two toys and Peeps, for example. It helps you from getting carried away and buying to many Easter items and too much candy.

  2. Step 2

Don't hesitate to check thrift stores for your supplies. During March and April you will find many baskets for sale and some will even have the grass still in it. You can find small plastic Easter favors, ribbon and even see-thu colored cellophane to cover the basket.

  3. Step 3

You can save money on the grass that goes inside your basket by using the paper that comes out of your shredder. Shred some pink or yellow paper or colorful flyers to make the top layer.

  4. Step 4

Don't forget to check your Christmas wrapping supplies. Sometimes you can use colors like white to help decorate the basket.

  5. Step 5

You will also see lots of stuffed toys and many will be Easter bunnies. You can take them home and putting them inside a pillow case, can wash them and let them dry on a low cycle. Take the toy out before it is completely dry and let it finish drying in the sun. Add a bow made of cloth ribbon.

  6. Step 6

If you have outgrown clothing, you can cut it to strips with pinking sheers and use it on the bottom of the basket and as a country style ribbon to tie the cellophane closed.

Another idea is to go to a 99 cent store or drug store and purchase a ready made basket that you can add your own stuff to. While you are there look for children books and coloring books and crayons. You can also look for plastic Easter favors here. Look for a package of plastic eggs that you put candy inside. The price at the 99 cent store will be at least half of what it is at other stores.

  8. Step 8

At the grocery store look for the packaged snack items. They will have individual packets of potato chips, cookies and dried fruit snacks and some will even have a mixture of different types of snacks. This way you can buy the child specific foods they prefer or food with less sugar.

  9. Step 9

If you decide you want to add toys in the basket, you can find them at the 99 cent store, thrift store and discount stores. Easter themed toys are fun, but they usually are forgotten about after Easter and don't hold the child's attention. Go to the toy aisle that has playing cards and you will find lots of small toys there to purchase, like yo-yo's, cards so you can teach them to play, War or Fish or Memory. Hot wheels for boys are usually around 99 cents and are very popular. Also, look at the birthday party favor aisle for ideas for your basket.

  10. Step 10

Start with crumbled up paper in the bottom of the basket and then add grass or shredded paper on top. Put your items in the basket. If you want to display them standing up, take a piece of scotch tape and run it horizontally from one side of the basket handle to the other. This will help keep your items up in the basket until you are ready to put the cellophane over it.
