Things You'll Need:

  • A notebook and a good sense of imagination.
  1. Step 1

There are lots of different ways to get started. I will give you a few things that I use to get started. When you want to start writing I would suggest getting a notebook. Any size will do because what you are going to use it for is writing down ideas. This is the easiest way to make sure that the jumble of incoherent ideas in your head gets put down on paper. It doesn’t really matter if they are grammatically correct in the beginning; you can fix that when it comes to the final draft.

  2. Step 2

Most people will tell you the best way to write is to do it everyday, and to a certain extent I agree but I also know how difficult it can be to write that often when you have things to do. I suggest keeping the notebook with you at all times or at least several small notepads so that you can always capture an idea when it flies through your mind. I used this at first and it gave me a jumping off point for my writing.

  3. Step 3

Once you find a story idea you like and can develop that is when you want to start writing. Don’t worry if it isn’t exactly what you want. You can fix it as you go or just leave it to later. Outlines of chapters or event in the story, despite the fact of how boring this might sound, are also very handy for stories and can help to plan everything in advance so you don’t forget something you want to do later.
