One option for getting rid of scars is dermabrasion; removal of the top layer of skin. Dermabrasion treatments only require a local anesthetic; providing the best results with scars that are raised above the skin.

Collagen injections can be used to get rid of scars that are below the skin; such as acne scars. The collagen will raise the sunken skin of the scar, however, these treatments may need to occur on a regular basis to maintain desired results.

There are many different topical scar treatments that lessen the appearance of a scar that can be bought over the counter for a fair price. Usually, the lotions and creams will not work for complete scar removal, but they can help to make it much less noticeable.

There are a plethora of natural scar remedies. A few of them are; vitamin E (for vibrant skin and scar diminishing), coconut oil (to be massaged into the scar area), and lemon juice (to lighten a scar).

Do what you can to treat a wound in a fashion that will prevent scars. Keep the wound clean, bandage it as appropriate, and use a healing cream or antibacterial until the wound is closed.
