Step 1
Check with the airline to find out their rules and requirements. Most airlines will allow your cat to ride with you in an approved carrier. A lot of cat owners feel this is a better choice than to allow a cat to ride with the luggage. However, if it is a long trip, decide what will work best for you.

Step 2
If you anticipate that your cat will be stressed out, there are some things you can give to him/her. A few drops of Rescue Remedy (a flower essence to ease anxiety) may help. There are other similar products on the market you might want to try. See Resources below.

Step 3
Lavender and chamomile having soothing properties. You can try using one of these to help your cat to enjoy the ride. Put some on a cotton ball and put into the corner of the cat's carrier. Or, you can even dilute one of the above with two-parts water and spray the bottom of the carrier 30 minutes to an hour before the trip.

Step 4
Talk to your vet about what he/she recommends for your pet.

Step 5
Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
