How to Clean a Dyson Vacuum

Save

Like most vacuum cleaners, over time your Dyson vacuum cleaner will build up dirt, moisture and particles of fiber that cause it to lose some of its suction. Add cleaning your Dyson vacuum every 6 months to your routine home maintenance schedule to keep it in optimum condition for years and years.

  • Remove canister from the base and remove the filter.

  • Rinse the filter under cold running water until the water runs clear. The filter may not look very dirty, but once you see how dirty the water is, you'll be relieved that you're cleaning it.

  • Rinse out the canister.

  • Release the wand from the hose by pushing the red button and rinse the wand under cold running water.

  • Locate the U-shaped piece at the base of the vacuum, turn the button 1/2 turn with a screwdriver and slide the piece off. This will allow water in the hose to come right out the bottom.

  • Place the vacuum over the toilet or bathtub ledge and rinse out the hose. A lot of gunk will be in there, so stretch the cord straight as the water runs through it.

  • Allow all the parts to air dry for 12 hours, or until thoroughly dry, before putting the vacuum back together.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not clean the filter of your Dyson with detergent or soap -- just use water.
  • Don't try to speed up the drying time by putting the filter in the clothes dryer or using a hair dryer.
