Things You'll Need:
- Good walking shoes
- Walking stick
- Nice Weather
- Plan
- Walking path in the park
- Friends and Family

Step 1
The first step in starting a walking club is to find out who may be interested in joining your club. Start by asking around to see who may be interested and willing to devote a couple hours a week to meeting for a walk in the park. You will be surprised at how many people want to join you. Fitness is important to most people. It's been such a long, cold winter and people want to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and nature. Doctors are always telling their patients to get moving and exercise for their own well-being. The minute I mentioned a walking club I had 10 people that wanted to join. Some of the people in my group are friends and family so it will be very enjoyable. Check with your neighbors and the people you work with. You will be pleasantly surprised at the interest people will show in walking. It's not strenous but it does get everyone moving.

Step 2
Most people work during the day so plan your walks for somewhere around 6:00 p.m. By this time most people should be home from work. If you do decide to walk in the evening keep in mind that it will be cooler than during earlier hours in the summer months. This is very important for states that have very high temperatures. Before you begin walking I would suggest a good pair of walking shoes. A walking stick will come in handy for going off the main paths in the park. I've decided that Wednesday will be a nice walking day so that's the day we are going to meet. I live in the Northeast so I think I will be safe to plan our first walk in May. The cold weather will have passed by then. (At least I hope so) If you decide to plan for a walking club consider where you live and the temperatures in your area.

Step 3
You may want to build up your stamina before you begin your walking club. I strongly would suggest this so that you don't become over-whelmed and disillusioned before you even begin. I'm going to start off slowly and walk a little further every few days. Hopefully by the time we begin walking in the park I will not hold anyone back. I think my best plan is to start by walking l mile one way and l mile back and build up to two miles. I just think starting off slowly makes sense. I'm really looking forward to my walking club and I hope I've given you some ideas to start your own walking club.

on 9/30/2009 Great advice on starting a walking club. I used to do a lot of walking and running. Unfortunately most of the time everybody was too busy or tired to participate. Great article though and I love the photo.
