How to Water and Provide The Right Sunlight for Houseplants

Caring for our houseplants can be confusing sometimes. Not knowing where to put them and how much water to give them can be a problem. Giving you a guide to some of the most popular houseplants grown indoors may help out. Maybe you are getting ready to buy some new houseplants, well this will provide you some information to help in that purchase. Just buy them according to the areas in your home that you can provide them what they need to thrive.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water jug, windows with sunlight and of course your plants
  1. Step 1

    Begonia’s love the northern sun and like to be dry mostly between watering.

  2. Step 2

    Spider plants like northern windows and love winter sun. Be sure to keep their soil moist.

  3. Step 3

    Ferns like indirect sunlight or (filtered). Keep p their soil moist.

  4. Step 4

    Jade plants prefer northern windows and indirect sunlight at a sunny window. Let them dry completely in between watering.

  5. Step 5

    Rubber plants like really bright northern windows or east and west sunny locations. Water them good in spring and summer and less in winter.

  6. Step 6

    Philodendron likes bright sunny windows and sunny east places too.

  7. Step 7

    Amaryllis when it is blooming like sunny locations, but not direct sunlight. Water moderately, keep moist during blooming. When blooms are gone, place in a dark cool place for several months.

  8. Step 8

    Geraniums like sunny windows in winter, but away from the windows in summer. Water well, but dry out between watering.

  9. Step 9

    Hawaiian Ti plants like east and west sunny areas and love water in spring and summer, less in winter.

  10. Step 10

    Flamingo plants keep moist, put in it on a saucer, likes sunny windows in winter and indirect light in summer.

  11. Step 11

    Hibiscus like to get well watered in the spring and summer. Put in sunny east or west window.

  12. Step 12

    Shrimp plants their soil evenly moist. Sunny window and not so direct sun in summer.

  13. Step 13

    Wandering Jew also like their soil evenly moist. No strong sunlight, but can stand bright northern light.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find that your plants are not doing well in their present location move them to a different location with different sunlight. Try watering more or less.
