Things You'll Need:
- Wire fed MIG welder
- welding Wire spool
- leather gloves
- welding helmet w/ auto eye shield
- electric outlet
- space clear of debris
-
Step 1
Install you wire into the Wire feeder by feeding it through until it feeds through properly. Close the lid and set the voltage and wire speed for your metal size and wire thickness. Find a bare metal area to connect your grounding clap to the work piece.
-
Step 2
Put on your gloves and helmet and then prepare your work area for the welding process. Do not directly into the light, yes it will blind you. But be safe and it will be fine. When ready trigger the wire to tack the metal you are working with. Then with the nozzle about 1/2 - 1/4 inch away from the welding spot slowly guide the wire feed down the course of the welding area.
-
Step 3
Don't burn through the metal if it is too thin. Lower your voltage if so, then let the metal cool and try it again. The weld needs to be strong so stay in one spot until it is welded then move on. Be clean with your welds and brush and grind down your welds when done. With practice you can make good welds and then you can really start welding working objects.
