How to measure an OBESE BODY to shop for PLUS SIZE CLOTHING online
I sell plus size clothing to many women who are obese or morbidly obese. When they have to chose which size they want from my chart I often get an email with this statement... "I can't measure myself because I'm too big and the tape measure is not long enough" or "I don't own a measuring tape" or "I don't have anyone to help me measure myself." Read below to see how I solve their problem!

Forget the typical plastic tape measure because it only goes up to 60 inches. You don't need one to measure your body. If you have a carpenter's type tape measure, you know, the metal kind that goes to 12 feet or whatever, use that!

Another option is to just use string or cord or twine or whatever you can find in the house that will fit around your body. You can even use a long extension cord. Wrap it around you and mark it. Now use a tape measure or a ruler to measure the cord! If you don't have anything handy to measure the cord don't worry. Grab a sheet of computer paper. It measures 11 inches on the long side. Just measure your cord along the edge of the paper and multiply by 11 and then just estimate how many inches are left over.

If it's too hard to measure your body and you don't have help then measure your clothing instead! Lay down your favorite shirt or favorite pair of pants and measure across using any of the methods mentioned above. Then compare the clothing measurements to the measurements on whatever site you are shopping on. This is also the perfect way to measure the length of whatever item you need (it's way easier to measure the length of a shirt or pants than to try to measure the length of your body!).

With these tips you should be able to get a fairly good idea of what your measurements are and what size clothing you should order on any site. Just remember, each clothing site varies so be sure to check how their chart works. For instance, my size chart gives you the measurement of the finished garment so if it says 80" around at the bust it will not fit someone with an 80" bust but will fit someone with a 70" bust. Just be sure you check each web site and never assume you take a certain size. And if you are still not sure, ask customer support on the site for help! I hope this helps you with your online clothing shopping!
