Instructions

    • 1

Select the right type of vase. The color of the vase should go well with the flowers you select and should be able to hold enough flowers and foliage to make a beautiful flower arrangement. Save money by looking around your home for glassware that can be used as a vase like glass pitchers or bowls.

Prepare your vase. Fill half of your vase with water and drop an aspirin tablet in the water to help your flowers last longer. You want to make sure that your flowers stay in place as you begin to arrange them. The best way to do this is by using clear tape to make a grid across the top of your vase. Depending on the size of your vase, tape three or four pieces of clear tape going across the opening of the vase. Fold the edges of the tape over the top of the vase to hold it in place. Tape another two or three pieces of clear tape going across in the opposite direction. This should give you several squares to place your flowers and foliage in.

    • 3

Fill a bucket with lukewarm water. The water level in your bucket should be high enough to cover the flower stems, so that your flowers will not begin to wilt as you transfer them from your garden to your vase.

    • 4

Go out to your garden and select the flowers and foliage that you want to use in your flower arrangement. Put on your gardening gloves and begin removing the flowers and foliage. Each stem must be cut at an angle. Consider the different colors that you have to select from and gather enough of each flower to really fill up your vase. Keep your flowers fresh by placing your flowers and foliage in your bucket as soon as you cut them.

    • 5

Carry your bucket back inside and place the flowers on your bath towels. It will be easier to arrange the flowers with clean stems, so cut off any leaves and thorns. Cut each flower stem, so that it is the same length of your vase.

Begin arranging your flowers. You can group similar types of flowers together or spread them out along the center of the arrangement. Remember to alternate between foliage and flowers to create a natural looking flower arrangement. You can also use pictures of flower arrangements from magazines or decorating books as a guide.

Add water to your vase everyday and replace any wilted flowers with new ones to keep your flower arrangement looking beautiful throughout the spring!
