When buying a Satellite radio receiver there are a lot of options which provide different ways to listen to your music, whether at home, in the car, or on the go, there are satellite radio receivers for you.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

XM and Sirius have combined into one company. Currently the devices are for either XM or Sirius. Soon there should be receivers that pick up both satellite signals. Decide how much you want to invest with new models coming on the market soon which will greatly expand the number of stations you can get.

  2. Step 2

Decide if you want satellite radio in your car only, in that case look for dealer installed or factory installed options when you purchase your car.

  3. Step 3

If you want satellite radio in your house only look at Tivoli Model (Sirius) or Polk XRt12 (XM).

  4. Step 4

If you need a portable option that you can dock in your car and play through the car speakers, dock in your house and play through your stereo, or carry with you as a portable radio look at the following models: Delphi SkyFi(3) (XM), Delphi Roady (XM), Sirius Stilletto 100 (Sirius), Pioneer XMP3 (XM).

  5. Step 5

If you are buying a portable model, pay close attention to the accessories that come with the receiver. You will want to be sure that it includes, or you buy, a car kit, a home kit and a walking kit. An additional accessory that is always helpful is a second battery. That way you can charge two batteries and just switch out when the first one is empty. When buying a car kit, be sure it connects to the input device you have in your car. Many newer cars have a MP3 jack. If your choice is between the FM radio sync and a tape cassette input, choose the tape cassette because that has better audio quality with less interference.
