How to Make Extra Money in a Bad Economy

With the cost of every expense from transportation to groceries going up, its no wonder we are all looking for ways to make extra money. Here's how to make extra money even when the economy is not doing well.

  • It is estimated that every home has $2,000 worth of items in the home that could be sold at either a garage sale or on eBay. Take a day and go through your home collecting all the items that you no longer use. After you have collected everything, have a garage sale. Posting your sale on Craigslist is free and it will draw a lot of people in.

Some items will do better on eBay so be sure to set those things aside.

  • Go out on Garbage night and look for treasures to sell on eBay, Craigslist or at a garage sale. Just remember, one man's junk is another man's treasure! Beware of the laws in your area. Some towns and communities actually make this practice illegal. If it is illegal in your area, make a complaint to your town officials.

  • Start writing on your own blog or on eHow or both! These are great ways to make money in your free time. If you have a wireless laptop, you could even do this on the train for your morning commute to your day job! Talk about multitasking!

  • Get a second job to bring in more cash. Years ago it was very common for men to work two or more jobs to support their families. It is now starting to regain popularity with both men and women. Many people are choosing second jobs working in retail stores and getting valuable discounts for their families.

  • Help out fellow parents and babysit another child after school until their parents come home from work. This is a good way to make money for parents who are already picking up their own child or children from school.

  • A rental can bring in a significant amount of income. Rent out a room or apartment in your home if you have the space. A real estate broker is a good investment for homeowners looking to rent space. A real estate broker should perform a credit check for you and do a background check to protect you and your family both financially and physically.
