Step 1
The most important step is seeing an obstetrician regularly. You should visit the obstetrician immediately after you have a positive pregnancy test. The doctor will be able to closely monitor your pregnancy personally, and will be much more beneficial than online advice.
-
Step 2
Get your vitamins and minerals! The most important minerals you should take to avoid miscarriage are calcium, iron, and folic acid. Folic acid is especially important in the very beginning of the pregnancy. The recommended amount is 400 micrograms, but you can't get enough.
-
Step 3
Eat healthy. Limit your fat intake, and be sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables. Leafy green vegetables like spinach and broccoli are especially important. Ideally, you should eat vegetables with every single meal.
-
Step 4
Avoid tobacco. If you smoke, stop. Do your very best to avoid people who smoke. Don't be concerned about what other people think, do what's best for yourself and your child. If you want to prevent miscarriage, this is a vital.
-
Step 5
Eliminate sugar and caffeinated beverages and drink water. This means no soft drinks, alcohol, and coffee. You should even be careful of drinking too much fruit juice. An occasional cup of tea is fine (green tea is best), but you should mainly stick to drinking water, and a lot of it.
-
Step 6
Exercise and get outdoors. Talk to your doctor about a proper exercise program. Going for even a 30 minute walk a day can be very helpful, and if possible, get outside and get some fresh air and sun.
-
Step 7
Maintain a positive attitude. Perhaps the most difficult step, but it could be very important. Avoid negative thinking and be happy. Enjoy every moment of every day. Be proactive in avoiding stress. Do whatever whatever works - prayer, meditation, yoga - for you.
-
Step 8
Get enough sleep. You should aim for 8 hours of sleep per night, and even taking mid-day naps. If you feel tired, go to bed. Don't overwork yourself.
