All bread is not created equally. So why treated as such when you go to store and pick up the first loaf you see. There is an art to picking the right bread for you and your family and this article will tell you just how to do that.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Always touch the bread before deciding which loaf to buy. Gently press it with your finger tips to determine the softness. Remember the key word GENTLY!!!

  2. Step 2

Check the colors on the twist tie. This can tell you a lot about what day the bread was put on shelve. The color of the twist ties represent each day of the week. Monday-blue, Tuesday-Green, Thursday-red, Friday-white, Saturday-yellow.

  3. Step 3

Check the printed date on the package. You can normally find bread that is good for one week but some brands last at least one extra week without molding.

  4. Step 4

Make sure there are no holes or punctures in the wrapping. If so find another loaf.

  5. Step 5

Look for any signs of mold on the bread. Some bread may have incorrect dates and can actually be older than the date specifies.

  6. Step 6

Always pick your bread from the back of the shelves since the older loaves are pushed up to the front to be purchased first.
