Things You'll Need:
- Reusable, paper or plastic grocery bags
-
Step 1
Put the heavy items in first. Rather than grabbing groceries as they come off the conveyor, pick and choose heavier items and set them in the bottoms of the bags.
-
Step 2
Distribute heavy items between bags. Placing too many heavy items in one bag may tear plastic or paper bags and makes them harder to carry.
-
Step 3
Place liquids upright in grocery bags. No matter how tightly sealed the bottle of juice may be, there is a chance that, on its side, it will leak and leave you with a wet, sticky mess.
-
Step 4
Stand boxes upright as well. Not only will this protect the contents, but also maximize space in the grocery bags.
-
Step 5
Pack like items together. Cleaning supplies should not be mixed with produce, for example, as the cleaners could leak and harm the food. Bagging all of the frozen or refrigerators together helps maintain their temperatures and also makes it easier to put them away once you get home.
