Make Decorative Oil Candles

Scented oil candles are a popular decorative accent and make a great gift for nearly any occasion. Depending on the fragrance you choose to add, oil-based candles can help you create or change the mood of whatever room you're in.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 5 oz. beeswax
  • 1 oz. essential oil
  • Double boiler
  • Candle wick
  • Glass jar
  • Ribbon, silk flowers or other decorative accent
  1. Step 1

Put the beeswax in the top of the double boiler. Put the double boiler on the stove and melt the wax at medium-high temperature.

  2. Step 2

Add 1 drop of essential oil to the melted beeswax. You can add a little more oil for a stronger scent but never add more than 1 oz. of essential oil to 1 lb. of wax.

  3. Step 3

Pour the wax into the glass jar. Insert the candle wick into the melted wax before it hardens.

  4. Step 4

Hold the wick in place until the wax hardens enough for the wick to stand on its own.

  5. Step 5

Decorate your candle by affixing a ribbon now, a photo label, silk flowers or any other accent that catches the eye.

  6. Step 6

Let the wax cool completely for 12 to 24 hours before you light it for the first time.
