Things You'll Need:
- An ounce of prevention
-
Step 1
Watch what you wear. Sharing head attire is one way to contract lice. Make sure that you only wear your own clothing so as to not pick up lice from someone else.
-
Step 2
Take your pillow with you. When you travel and have to stay in a hotel, play it safe and take your pillow with you. Hotels have to wash their bedding, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
-
Step 3
Turn up the heat! Lice and their eggs are not comfortable in high heat environments. If you suspect your bedding or clothing may be infested, put them in the clothes dryer on high heat, if your clothing allows it.
-
Step 4
Catch some rays. Although this may be more treatment than preventative, lice do not like light. This is why people with long thick hair are more susceptible to lice than those of us with little or no hair.
-
Step 5
Wash, rinse, repeat. Normal shampooing will generally not get rid of a lice infestation, but it will discourage one. Don't give lice the opportunity to get comfortable. Wash your hair on a regular basis and even use a preventative shampoo if you are suspect.
