Things You'll Need:
- screwdriver
- perhaps a helper if removing hinges
- pail or bucket
- Greased Lightning
- rubber gloves
- rags
-
Step 1
Use screwdriver to remove hardware. You will likely need both a flat and a phillips screwdriver because both type screw heads are often used. Use care not to damage cabinet and hinge surface, especially if a using drill or power driver. Guard screws with your life. Replacement screws can be found at any hardware or home improvement store.
-
Step 2
Number each door and its opening for a perfect fit when re-installing. After hardware is removed, place in a pail or bucket along with screws. Pour in enough "Greased Lightning" or other safe solvent to cover parts. Let soak for 24 hours.
-
Step 3
Using rubber gloves, remove hardware from pail one piece at a time. Wipe off paint and grime with a heavy cloth. Stubborn paint build up may require the use of a small stiff brush. Rinse hardware and screws thoroughly with water. Let dry, and replace hardware and doors.
