Step 1
To delay Alzheimer's disease, increase intake of vitamin B12. University of Oxford scientists state that drinking two glasses of milk each day may help delay Alzheimer's disease. As people age their bodies have a more difficult time absorbing vitamin B12. According to research, drinking milk is the best way for older people to absorb vitamin B12. Even though vitamin B12 is in most meat, fish, and dairy products, the body has a hard time absorbing it from these food sources.

Step 2
Eat a diet high in fish, oil, and brightly colored vegetables and fruits to delay Alzheimer's disease. According to studies published in Neurology, a scientific journal, people who eat a Mediterranean diet may delay Alzheimer's disease even if early symptoms of the disease are present. Many experts argue that a Mediterranean diet increases overall health and reduces the odds for other health problems to develop like heart disease, cancer, and high cholesterol.

Step 3
Start socializing more and increase physical activity to delay Alzheimer's disease. Research reveals that people who exercise their brains through socializing stimulate their brain cells and strengthen the connections between them. Physical exercise increases blood supply to the brain. Go for a fast-paced thirty minute walk at least five times a week and do light strength training for a few days a week to keep your brain healthy.

Step 4
Do regular meditation to decrease stress and delay Alzheimer's disease. Find a type of meditation that you enjoy like yoga or self-hypnosis. Stress has a bad effect on brain cells because during stress hormones are released that can damage the brain. Make sure to also avoid excessive amounts of alcohol. Besides reducing heart disease, one study suggested that drinking one glass of red wine each day may reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

on 3/28/2009 Alzheimers disease is such a strain on the patient (even though they may not realize it in the later states) as well as the family. Doing whatever we can to delay the onset of it, can only make the quality of life better for all. B12 has been recommended by many with no negatives to it, so what do we have to lose....nothing. *5
