Calm Puffy Eyes

There's nothing worse than the look and feel of tired, puffy eyes. The good news is that there are ways to calm and cure the inflammation and fluid retention that causes puffy eyes. Read on. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Reduce the swelling around your puffy eyes. Use cold compresses, refrigerated eye cream, or chilled potato slices, cucumber slices, or used tea bags. Not only will it feel soothing, it will help drain the fluid around your eyes, decreasing the inflammation.

    • 2

Elevate your head while sleeping. Your puffy eyes could be the result of fluid buildup from using a pillow that is too flat. Try a thicker pillow or use two flat pillows stacked on top of each other.

    • 3

Stay hydrated. Being dehydrated means you are retaining fluids, hence puffy eyes! Aim for 64 oz. of water per day. Sound boring? Add cucumber and lemon slices to your water for an added twist of flavor.

    • 4

Reduce your salt intake. Too much sodium in your diet will cause fluid retention which can equate to puffy eyes. You might not even realize how much salt you eat until you check the labels of your foods. Cut back on the salt and see what happens.

    • 5

Get enough sleep. Everyone's sleep needs are different but not getting enough of restful sleep could be the cause of your puffy eyes. Try to aim for 7.5 hours per night and avoid caffeine and alcohol a few hours before tucking in.

    • 6

Control allergies. Many times, puffy eyes are the result of seasonal allergies. Try over the counter medications or see your doctor if you think you need a prescription allergy medicine and/or nose spray to keep seasonal allergies in check.
