Perhaps you have always dreamed of a Celtic-themed wedding. Or your spouse is of Scottish origin and you decided to have a Scottish wedding. Or maybe, you're in love with Scotland and want to show it by having a Scottish-themed wedding with a breath-taking sound of bagpipes during your ceremony?

To fulfill this grand dream of having the sound of bagpipes accompanying you as you walk down the aisle, you have to find a bagpipe player. Seeing how your wedding day is the most important day of your life so far, you want to make sure that the bagpipe player you hired is skilled and reliable, so you're not disappointed with their performance.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet connection
  • Phone
  1. Step 1

First, make sure that you have all the information that you're going to need handy. You need to make sure that you know the date of your wedding and the time it starts, at least approximately. It might be also a good idea to know what amount of money you'd like to spend on having bagpipe music. Decide if you already have an idea of which pieces you'd like to be played or if you're going to ask your bagpipe player to help you choose some.

  2. Step 2

Turn on your computer and start looking. A good idea would be go to a classifieds website for your area (f.e. http:// www.craigslist.org ) and post a wanted ad. By doing this you gain two possible advantages - the bagpipe player you're looking for might contact you with their offer, or like it happened in my case, you might get an e-mail from a former bride who saw your ad and wanted to recommend a bagpipe player who played at her wedding.

  3. Step 3

You can also go to a social portal (f.e. myspace.com). Many musicians have their profiles on there and you can actually listen to some samples of their music. Don't be afraid to send them a message and ask for details if you think they might be right for your wedding. Even if the musician you liked is booked, he might recommend another bagpipe player he knows who is good (that is how I got the bagpipe player who played on my wedding day and he was great!).

  4. Step 4

After you get some responses, you can start setting up meetings with different bagpipe players, request samples of their work, see how flexible they are etc. When you are ready to choose, you'll feel good about the bagpipe player you hire.

Tips & Warnings
  • I think it's really important to meet the bagpipe player if only possible. There's nothing like discussing everything in person, describing to him what it is that you want and seeing if he's ready to work with it. Make sure you choose the bagpipe player that you feel is going to fit your expectations best. Good luck!

on 4/10/2009 In our area the Fire Department has the pipe and drum corp and I always contact them when we need pipes for an event. You might try that as well. Great article! 5*
