How to Use the SD Slot in a Gateway Laptop
Several Gateway laptop models come with built in SD card slots along the side of the case. You can use the card slot to transfer files directly to and from an SD expansion card to the laptop without having to attach a separate USB cable.

Check the direction of the SD card and look for the arrow on the side of the card that has a notch. With the arrow pointing up, slide the card gently into the SD slot on the side of your Gateway laptop until it clicks.

Wait a moment for a new window to pop up on your screen. Scroll down through the window's options and then click on the link that says "Open a Folder to View Files." Click on the "View" button at the top toolbar of the window that will open. Choose the view type you want to use from the list of options in the drop down menu such as "Tile," "Icon," "Detail," or "List."

Double click on any of the icons or list entries in the window to open and view the file. Click on any of the files and then drag them directly to the desktop to transfer them onto the Gateway laptop's hard drive.

Open the "My Computer" icon on your desktop or right click on the "Start" button and choose "Explorer." Locate any files that you want to place onto the SD card and click on them. Drag them across to the folder with the SD cards files to transfer the data.

Navigate back to the "My Computer" window if you need to format the SD card. Right click on the letter that corresponds to the drive bay for the SD card slot and then click on "Reformat." Select "FAT16" from the new window that will pop up and then click "OK" to format the SD card.

Tips & Warnings
Although SD cards are used primarily to hold pictures in digital cameras, they can be used to store any type of file as long as it doesn't exceed the card's storage capacity.
Do not remove the SD card from the card slot on your Gateway laptop while data is being transferred, or the files can be permanently corrupted and rendered unusable.
