How to Become a Walt Disney World Security Officer

Save

Walt Disney World is a vast complex made up of three theme parks, two water parks and many hotels and stores. It takes a large contingent of security guards to maintain safety and security at the Walt Disney World resort. With the right education and experience, you can land a job as a part of the Walt Disney World security force.

  • Get a degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field. Many community colleges offer an associate degree in these fields. If you attend school full time, it will take two years to earn your degree.

  • Gain experience in the field by getting an entry-level security job. Walt Disney World is the premier employer in Central Florida. Before applying at Disney, it is helpful to gain a year or two of experience at another employer. A good job history enhances your chances of being hired.

  • Apply for a job during the busy season. Business at Walt Disney World varies throughout the year. Summertime is the busiest period, then things slow down during the fall when children go back to school. The crowds return temporarily during the holidays and fall off again in January. Your best chance of being hired is during one of the busy times, not during slow times when there may be staff cutbacks.

  • Visit the Walt Disney World careers website and search for security-related job openings. You can find the link in the Resources section. The site lists positions at Disney affiliates throughout the United States, so you will need to narrow it down to the Disney World Resort in Florida.

  • Apply for any appropriate positions you find during your search. The website will give you instructions for how to submit your application online.

Tips & Warnings

  • Walt Disney World has a policy of promoting from within. Even if you are not able to initially get a position as a security officer, you may wish to apply for a general entry-level position. If you are hired, that will allow you to bid on security officer positions before they are advertised to the general public.
