How to Make Barbecued Shrimp

Shrimp easily absorb the flavor of seasoning that you use on them. To maximize the flavor of the shrimp when preparing them to barbecue on the grill, you should marinade them with a lightly flavored oil. Things You'll Need

  • 1 lb. jumbo shrimp for every two people
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. lime juice
  • 1 tsp. steak seasoning
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • Paring knife
  • Kosher salt
  • Whisk
  • Plastic wrap
  • Barbecue sauce of choice
  • Basting brush

Instructions

    • 1

      Prepare marinade. In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice and steak seasoning.

      Using a paring knife, slice the shell around the perimeter of the shrimp. Remove the shell from the shrimp, but leave the tail attached.

      Sprinkle both sides of the jumbo shrimp with kosher salt. Place shrimp in the bowl to marinade.

      Cover bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator overnight.

      Position the shrimp on the grill. Use a basting brush to apply the barbecue sauce to each side of the shrimp. Allow shrimp to cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid overcooking the shrimp while grilling. Overcooked shrimp will quickly become tough and rubbery.
