How to Make a Groom's Boutonniere With Flowers
It's wedding season and time to plan the wedding. Flowers are a huge part of the wedding atmosphere and decorations. The most important flowers are the bridal bouquet and the groom's boutonniere. The groom's boutonniere is usually a flower that matches one kind of flower in the bridal bouquet. The standard boutonnieres are roses or carnations. You can choose freesia, stephanotis or any medium to small flower. Groom boutonnieres are easy to make in silk or real flowers.

1
Cut the fresh or silk flower down to a 3-inch stem.

Push a piece of 5-inch-long florist wire directly through the receptacle of the real flower. This is the upper portion of the green stem just below the petal mass. Bend the two ends of the wire downward. Twist one around the stem and wire.

Wrap floral tape tightly around the receptacle of the fresh or silk flower. Wrap all the way to the end of the stem, and then start back up the stem. Pull tightly and break the tape off.

Place a piece of greenery against the back of the flower. Floral tape both stems together. Add baby's breath or tiny flowers if desired. Wrap with floral tape to secure and cover the stem.

Tips & Warnings
You can color a carnation by spraying it with Design Master Floral Spray. Spray just the outer edge for a nice look. You pull and wrap floral tape and it sticks to itself. Floral tape is not an adhesive.
Be careful when pushing wire through a flower receptacle. If you have a finger in the way you can poke the wire into your skin.
