1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan or two 9-inch round pans and then lightly coat the pans with flour. If you don't want to risk the flour showing on the finished cake, coat the pans with a small amount of the dry cake mix instead of flour.

2
Mix the wet ingredients together first. Add the eggs, oil and milk and blend thoroughly.

Select a pudding flavor and dump the pudding mix into a separate bowl. If you are unsure what flavor of pudding you should use, try vanilla. Vanilla pudding will complement any cake flavor without being overwhelming. If you are making a chocolate cake and would prefer even more chocolate flavor, adding chocolate pudding is a good choice.

Add the cake mix to the bowl containing the pudding mix and stir. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and combine the two mixtures, making sure to remove all lumps.
-
5
Place the pan or pans in the oven for the recommended time listed on the cake mix box. The cake is done when the surface springs back lightly when touched. Check the cake 5 minutes before it is expected to be finished to avoid overbaking. If the cake bakes too long, it will be dry, even with the addition of pudding.

Remove the cake from the oven and cool on a rack. Frost the cake after it has cooled and serve.

Tips & Warnings
For a denser cake, add 1 cup of sour cream or yogurt to the mix. Experiment with a different pudding flavor each time you bake a cake. Try adding lemon or butterscotch pudding to your cake for added flavor.
Make sure that the cake mix you select doesn't already include pudding as an ingredient. If the mix contains pudding and you add instant pudding, the cake will be heavier than normal.
