Sinus headaches are caused when there is too much pressure in the cavities around your nose, eyes and cheeks. The sinus cavities become inflamed and cause pain, usually in your forehead. You can get rid of sinus headaches in many different ways.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a decongestant medication from a local pharmacy. This medication will help the fluid drain from the sinus cavities. This drainage will help to relieve the pressure in your head. Decongestants also constrict (tighten) blood vessels which help to alleviate the headache pain as well. Check with your doctor first before taking any over-the-counter medications.

  2. Step 2

Get a humidifier. A humidifier will keep the air moist in your home. This will help you to breathe easier, especially at night. The humidifier helps to open up your nasal passageways, preventing mucus blockage and inflammation to occur. Having open nasal passages will help alleviate your sinus headache.

  3. Step 3

Go to the doctor. The doctor can prescribe medications for your sinus headache. Sometimes a person may also have a sinus infection. In this case, the doctor will have to prescribe an antibiotic, such as amoxicillin and a decongestant such as Mucinex or guafinisen.

  4. Step 4

Take a hot shower. A hot shower helps to break up the mucus in your head. It will sometimes help your sinus passages drain better once you've had a hot shower. Your head will seem less stuffy and your headache may disappear.
