Install a Rumble Bee Hood Scoop to customize any Dodge Ram to look like the Hemi powered Rumble Bee Ram. The Rumble Bee mixed classic image with advanced power to capture the Hemi mystique in a Mopar truck. As the new look was unveiled, Ram truck owners began to make modifications to their own Dodge Rams to match the new styling of the Rumble Bee Ram. The 2004 and 2005 Rumble Bee Dodge Ram truck introduced a new line of Dodge Ram to the public and by adding a Rumble Bee hood scoop, a Dodge Ram Sport will mirror the look of the Hemi powered Rumble Bee truck hood scoop assembly.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Park a Dodge Ram in a well lit work area. Clean the hood with soap and water then the center of the hood where the scoop will be positioned with one part alcohol and two parts dish detergent.

  2. Step 2

Open the hood and remove the inner liner with a screwdriver where an inner liner covers the hood fame gage underneath. The underside of the hood metal will need to be accessed to secure the new hood scoop from underneath the hood.

  3. Step 3

Close the hood and lay out the Rumble Bee hood scoop template on top of the hood and center it in place using tape to secure the template in place. Use a step ladder to be able to get a good height over the work area during installation.

  4. Step 4

Locate the fastener placements on the template and use a spring loaded metal punch to mark the locations of the fastener holes onto the surface of the hood. Be sure that the template does not move while you are marking the position of the fasteners or the scoop will not be positioned properly when installed. Remove the template from the hood and discard. Check to see that all the punch marks are easily seen and ready to be drilled before discarding the template.

  5. Step 5

Drill six fastener holes into the hood metal from the top. Center the drill bit into each metal punch and drill completely through the hood for the fastener holes the Rumble Bee hood scoop will be secured with. Protect the engine underneath the hood while drilling with an engine cover or blanket to catch and metal shavings that can fall from the holes during drilling. Open the hood and inspect that the holes are reachable after drilling. Remove the blanket making sure not to drop metal shavings into the engine compartment.

  6. Step 6

Close the hood and place the Rumble Bee hood scoop gasket over the drill holes in the hood. Place the Rumble Bee hood scoop on top of the gasket and tape the scoop and gasket in place with a masking tape that is easily removed when finished securing the hood scoop with the six bolts used to fasten the scoop to the hood. Open the hood up so that the alignment of the hood scoop and the fastener holes can be seen. Make adjustments to the alignment if needed.

  7. Step 7

Using a ratchet wrench with extension, place one of the fastener bolts into the socket and bring the bolt up to one of the fastener holes that leads to the fastener receiving brackets. Tighten the bolt into its hole without tightening completely. Continue to place a bolt into the socket and tighten each one into its fastener bracket until it is snug. Once all the bolts are in, close the hood and remove the masking tape holding the Rumble Bee hood scoop in place.

  8. Step 8

Manipulate the hood and fastener bolts until the gasket and hood scoop are perfectly placed. Open the hood one more time and continue to tighten the six fastener bolts until they are firmly positioning the hood scoop in place. Replace any hood under-liner and close the hood. Clean the Rumble Bee hood scoop and the rest of the hood after installation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a spring loaded punch when marking the hood using the template. A punch that uses a hammer can create an indentation in the hood that is noticeable if the hammer hits the punch too hard.
  • Using a step ladder during any installation on a truck with high clearance can create hazardous environments where falls can occur. Always use a quality step ladder or stepping bench while working above a high clearance vehicle to prevent injuries from slip and falls from low-level stepping stools and ladders.
