1
Pick your hoodie. The best hoodie to use for a cropped top is one with no zipper and no pockets. You can have any number of pockets and a zipper for a hoodie you just want to make sleeveless.
-
2
Measure and mark the cuts. For the cropped look, try on the hoodie and decide how short you want to make it in the front. Go about a half-inch longer than where you selected and stick a piece of masking tape onto middle front. Stick three more pieces of tape around the length you want, one at the center back and one on each side.

3
Lay hoodie flat. Carefully remove the hoodie and lay it flat on the floor, front side up.
-
4
Cut off the arms. Snip off the arms just below the stitching at the armholes near the shoulder for a sleeveless hoodie, snip about three inches bellow that seam for a short-sleeved hoodie.
-
5
Trim the length. Start at the seam on one side and make a slit where you stuck a straight pin. Continue to snip along the bottom of the hoodie, along each piece of masking tape, until you've cut off the bottom area indicated.

Tips & Warnings
Always cut sweatshirts a bit longer than you think since they tend to curl up on the edges.
Be frugal with the cutting. You can always cut more off but you can't put some back.
