How to Become a Seventeen Magazine Model

Seventeen magazine is owned by Hearst Corporation's Digital Media division. The magazine is geared toward women between the ages of 12 and 24. First published in 1944 by Walter Anneberg, Seventeen magazine is widely considered to be one of the most popular teen magazines in the United States. Colleen Corby, Gia Carangi and Brooke Shields are some well-known models who have appeared on the cover of the magazine. Although the competition amongst is fierce to become a Seventeen magazine model, new models are regularly hired by the magazine.

Instructions

1. Win America's Next Top Model contest. Enter America's Next Top Model contest, which is hosted by Tyra Banks. Visit The CW television station (see resources). Download and complete the application to compete to appear on the reality show. Include professional photographs of yourself with your application as well as your social security number, a copy of your driver's license and a two-minute videotape explaining why you should be a contestant on the show. Appear at upcoming casting calls which are held in major cities around the United States.

2. Answer the magazine's Reader Model Open Call. Visit the Seventeen Magazine's New York City office located at 300 West 57th Street on Friday between 4:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. Apply minimal make-up. Wear an outfit that exemplifies your personality and style. Keep in mind that if you are under the age of 18, you must bring a parent or guardian with you to the open call. Be advised that no appointment is necessary to appear at the open call targeted for models between 14 and 20 years of age.

3. Land an agent. Visit websites of reputable modeling agencies (see resources). Submit your photographs online. Check out dates and times for when the agency holds open calls. Attend the open call and speak with an agency representative at the end of the open call. Leave your contact information. Attend agency scouting events. Keep in mind that if you are interested in modeling for print as well as for television and film, you need to find an agency that handles all three media outlets such as 1 Model Management, Click and IMG. After you gain agency representation, ask the agency to contact Seventeen Magazine about a photo opportunity for you.
