Things You'll Need:
- Brush with stiff bristles
- Cardboard
- Absorbent pad
- Afta cleaning fluid
- Dry spotter
- Wet spotter
- Amyl acetate
- Rubbing alcohol
- White vinegar
- Oxidized bleach
-
Step 1
Take the stained silk, and then sweep away the mildew onto a piece of cardboard. Use a brush with stiff bristles, but be gentle when brushing.
-
Step 2
Wash the remaining residue of the mildew with Afta cleaning fluid. This will loosen the residue on the silk, but won't leave any stains or cause discolorations.
-
Step 3
Apply a dry spotter to the stain. A dry spotter dissipates stains immediately and evaporates without washing. After applying the spotter, apply amyl acetate. Amyl acetate is a more aggressive drying agent and will dissolve any stains not dissolved by the spotter.
-
Step 4
Take an absorbent pad and dampen it with dry spotter. Rub or pat the stain with the pad, then wash with a dry cleaning solvent and air dry.
-
Step 5
If the stain still hasn't been removed, take a sponge, dampen it with water, then apply it to the stain. After the stain has been dampened, apply wet spotter along with a few drops of white vinegar.
-
Step 6
Dampen an absorbent pad with the wet spotter and rub it on the stain. Wash the stain, then dry. Next, apply rubbing alcohol onto the stain, then dampen the pad with alcohol and rub it against the stain. Wash with alcohol and dry. Use an oxidized bleach to remove any remaining stains.
