Instructions

    • 1

Fill an icing bag, purchased at most grocery or bakery supply stores, with a rose-colored frosting. Use a butter knife to move the icing from the container into the icing bag. Place an icing tip on the end of the bag, also purchased at most grocery or bakery supply stores.

    • 2

Start with the cake top as your base and build your icing rose one petal at a time. Hold the icing bag in one hand and place the other hand near the tip to guide the bag. Squeeze out enough frosting to make a 2-inch-tall cone shape for the center of your rose.

    • 3

From the bottom of the bag, squeeze enough icing to create three more cones halfway up the sides of the first cone. These cones must be flatter and more oval than the center cone.

    • 4

Roll up the bottom of the icing bag as you squeeze out more icing to create four more icing rose petals underneath the first row. Create these rose petals the same as the three above.

    • 5

Continue to create icing rose petals underneath the second row, all the way around the flower base. Your icing rose can contain as many rose petals as you desire. The more petals you add, the fuller your rose will appear. If you desire a smaller bloom, limit the petals to three rows.

Tips & Warnings

  • Roses come in a variety of colors. You can create your icing roses in any single rose color or a variety of colors. Wipe the tip after each creating each cone petal. For a more natural rose, make sure the petals overlap each other.

  • The icing consistency must be firm in order to create rose petals that stand up. If the icing is too thin, the rose petals will fall.
