Instructions

    • 1

Choose a medium to large size feather. Trim the quill to approximately 1 inch long. Trim the feather itself if necessary, so that it has a nice smooth shape.

    • 2

Cut a 12-inch piece of leather and double it. Lay the ends of your leather lace on top of the feather starting half way down the feather's length. Let the looped end of the lace extend past the top of the quill a 1/2 inch.

    • 3

Cut an 8-inch piece of lace and lay one end even with the top of the quill and run it down the length to where you want your wrapping to begin. Pinching this piece and the looped piece to the quill with one hand, begin wrapping your lace around all 3 lengths of leather and the quill. Once you reach the top, trim the end of your leather strap on the diagonal and glue in place.

    • 4

String a few beads on each of the two ends of leather strap that are hanging over the feather. Tie the ends of the straps to secure the beads and hang your ornament from the loop at the top.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can paint designs on your feather to make it more attractive. Make sure to keep the wrapping tight so you can not see the quill through it.

  • It is illegal to collect some feathers. To be safe from disease and legalities, purchase feathers at a craft store.
