How to Make a Jewelry Tree

A jewelry tree makes an attractive display for craft shows or can be used to dress up your bedroom by displaying your necklaces and bracelets. Expensive, commercial trees are available, but they lack the charm of a handmade jewelry tree. It is simple enough to make that it also makes a good gift idea. Follow these steps.

Things You'll Need

  • 8 oz. polymer clay
  • 1 to 1.5 foot tall tree branch
  • Felt
  • Hot glue
  • Spray paint

Instructions

    • 1

Find a tree branch that is smooth and has many sturdy twigs coming off of it. Trim any weak twigs and smooth any rough areas. If you would like to paint the branch, coat it thoroughly with the spray paint and allow to dry. Apply a second coat of paint if necessary.

    • 2

Make a sphere with the polymer clay then press one side against the table to make it flat. Poke your tree branch into the rounded top of the clay about 3/4 of the way down. Bake the clay mound according to the package directions.

Once the clay base has cooled, cut your felt to fit the flat bottom. Hot glue it on to the base. Slip your branch into the hole and also glue this in place. Complete any trimming necessary to ensure your jewelry tree is balanced. Hang jewelry from the branches and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add weights, such as washers, to the clay before you bake it to hold your tree steady. Decorate the clay base with beads and ribbons. Use your tree to hang ghosts or eggs from for a Halloween or Easter decoration.
