Tape residue on tile is a sticky situation, but it can be remedied by using a few household items. Warm vinegar or baby oil can be used to soak the area and easily scrape it clean using a dull, straight edge. This method is safe to use on any type of tile, and will leave your floors looking like new.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Use a strong adhesive tape to first remove as much of the residue as possible from the tile. Flatten it over the affected area, push down and then pull it up. Repeat this several times until no more residues will come up.

  2. Step 2

Heat a small amount of white vinegar in a small sauce pan over low heat until warm, but not boiling. Pour the heated liquid into a clean spray bottle.

  3. Step 3

Spray the affected area heavily with the vinegar. Allow it to soak for about one hour, or a half-hour at the very least.

  4. Step 4

Use a dull, straight edge (an old credit card or putty knife) to carefully scrape the tape residue from the tile.

  5. Step 5

If the tape residue still remains, heat a small amount of baby oil in a small sauce pan over low heat until it is warm, but not boiling.

  6. Step 6

Pour the heated oil into a spray bottle. Spray the affected area. Allow it to soak for one hour and then scrape the tape residue from the tile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Alternatively, you can use household products such as WD-40, Goo-Gone, or Un-Du, found in hardware stores and home improvements stores, to scrape tape residue from tile.
