Instructions

  1. Make a Sling Carrier for Pets

    • 1

Cut a long rectangle of sturdy cloth, such as denim or canvas, that is a bit wider than your pet and long enough to wrap from your shoulder down to your opposite hip loosely. Also cut a circle with a diameter measuring half the length of the long rectangle you just cut. Fold the circle in half and cut it into two equal pieces.

    • 2

Find the center of the long rectangle of fabric and mark it with a pin. Find the centers of each half circle fabric piece and attach it to the center point on the rectangle. Pin the right sides of the half circle and rectangle fabric together. Sew these pieces together with a sewing machine and sturdy thread, leaving an inch border at the top that is unsewn.

    • 3

Turn the top border of each fabric circle under and pin it in place. Also turn under the raw edges of the rectangular piece of fabric. You may want to double turn the edges on fabric that may fray. This will create a neater appearance. Sew the edges of both pieces, creating a neat hem.

    • 4

Turn the sling carrier right side out, clipping inner seams if necessary to create a smooth edge. Cut a foam pad in a rectangle that will fit in the bottom section of the pet sling. Cut fabric to cover it and use the sewing machine to stitch it neatly over the foam. Insert the covered foam pad into the bottom of the pet sling.

    • 5

Sew the top ends of the rectangular piece of fabric together with two or three rows of stitching. This juncture must be strong enough to support your pet. If desired, pleat the fabric that goes across your back and chest and use a needle and thread to stitch the pleats together. This will give the sling carrier for pets a strap instead of a swatch of cloth that goes across your body.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure your animal fits comfortably in the sling carrier.

  • Do not carry your animal around everywhere. Pets need exercise.
