Any dead animal can cause potential health problems for those around it. If you had an infestation of mice and killed them, you are going to find dead mice all over your house. When you find one, you will need to dispose of it properly. If you don't, the odor will continue to build up until you can't stand it anymore.
Things You'll Need
- Garden shovel
- Ziploc bags
- Grocery bags
- Trash can
- Disinfectant spray
Put on a pair of disposable gloves. If you don't have any, you can take a plastic grocery bag and insert your hand in to it. Tie a rubber band around your wrist so that it doesn't keep sliding off.
Pick up the dead mouse. If the mouse has been there for a long time, it may be stuck to the surface. You may need a garden shovel to get it up.
Place the dead mouse inside a resealable plastic bag. If you have more than one dead mouse, use separate bags.
Place the plastic bag inside a plastic grocery bag and tie in a knot. This type of double bagging will make sure that no other animals smell the mouse and dig open your trash before trash day.
Set the bag in the trash can outside and place a lid over it. Make sure the lid is secure. This keeps the smell out of your house.
Disinfect the area where the mouse died. Make a bleach mixture for the floor. Combine 1/4 of a cup of bleach with 2 cups of hot water. Dip a rag inside the mixture and wipe down the surface where the mouse died.
Disinfect the surrounding air by using a disinfecting spray.
Throw away your plastic gloves and wash your hands with soap and water.
Tips & Warnings
- Use some hand sanitizer when you are done.
- Bleach can discolor some surfaces. Make sure you check a small area first.
