How to Climb Ropes
The best way to climb a rope sometimes depends on the situation. For a person who simply wants to be able to get from the floor to the top of the rope as easily as possible, there is one method.
However, a person who wants to show off a little more and show his strength may employ a different method of rope-climbing.

How to Climb a Rope Quickly
-
1
Reach above your head and grab the rope with both hands. One hand should be just under the other. Hop up and wrap your legs around the rope by putting the rope in between your thighs. Press your feet together by hooking one in front of the rope and one behind it.
-
2
Pull up your body using your arm strength. When your chest reaches the level of your hands, squeeze tightly on the rope with your feet and legs. Swing your bottom hand higher up on the rope, relax your legs and feet and pull yourself up again.

3
Repeat step 2 as many times as it takes to reach the top of the rope.
How to Climb a Rope Without Using Legs
-
4
Reach over your head and grab the rope with both hands fairly close to each other. Let go of the rope with one hand and quickly grab the rope about a foot higher.
-
5
Pull with the upper hand and release with the lower hand at the same time. This allows the climber to move his way upward without needing to stop for a rest, which would likely require use of the legs.
-
6
Repeat step 2 as many times as you need to until you get to the top of the rope.

Tips & Warnings
Strengthen arm muscles for climbing ropes by doing pull-ups, push-ups and climbing across monkey bars.
Use the hand-under-hand method when descending from the rope and make sure your legs aren't around the rope. Simply sliding down the rope will leave your hands and legs with rope burn.
