Green beauty products often contain ingredients that you can find in your very own kitchen. In recent years green beauty products have grown in popularity as people are more concerned with the environment and more interested in using healthy products on their bodies. Green beauty products don't contain preservatives like parabens that can potentially damage the skin. Another benefit to green beauty products is that they are biodegradable, and so they don't damage the environment.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ingredients: essential oils, beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, mica, castor oil, fragrance oils, sweet almond oil, macadamia oil, virgin olive oil and brown sugar.
  • Several plastic bowls for mixing
  • Glass jars for storage
  • Mixing tools like spatulas and spoons, electric blender
  1. Step 1

Purchase necessary ingredients, and find recipes for various green beauty products.
You will need supplies such as waxes, butters, cream bases, earth-based minerals and other materials, acids, pigments, fragrance oils and essential oils. You will also need some natural products like avocado, lemon, vanilla extract, olive oil, honey and crushed herbs. You can purchase these ingredients at organic food stores as well as from makeup suppliers. Check the resources section below for some great green recipes.

  2. Step 2

Make a mineral blush that will give a subtle, rosy glow to your cheeks.
You will need two teaspoons of bordeaux mica, one teaspoon of oriental beige mica and half a teaspoon of splendid blue mica. You must purchase the organic mica and other similar minerals from a makeup wholesaler. Mix all the mica together in a small plastic bowl until the colors have completely blended together. Use a spoon or mini-grinder to break up any solid pieces of the mica. Store the blush in a plastic container for future use. Use a regular blush or powder brush to sweep the blush across your cheeks.

  3. Step 3

Make a green body scrub to exfoliate and moisturize your skin.
You will need two and a half cups of brown or white sugar, one half cup of sweet almond oil, one tablespoon shea butter, four tablespoons honey (the runnier the better), two drops bergamot essential oil, and one drop neroli essential oil. Combine the sugar and sweet almond oil in a plastic bowl, and stir well. Add the shea butter and honey, and gently whip the mixture with an electric beater until you have a thick paste. Store in a glass jar for future use. Apply all over your body, especially on rough areas like knees and elbows.

  4. Step 4

Make a soothing, citrus-flavored lip balm using green ingredients.
You will need 1.5 ounces of virgin olive oil, 2.5 ounces of avocado oil, 3.5 ounces of shea butter, 3 ounces of beeswax, and about 20 drops of sweet orange essential oil. Combine all ingredients except the essential oil in a glass jar, and place in a hot water bath until the shea butter and wax are melted. Add the essential oil, and stir to blend all of the ingredients together. Pour the liquid mixture into lip balm containers and molds, and allow to cool before use.

  5. Step 5

Make a green hot oil treatment for your hair to smooth split ends.
You will need one half teaspoon of castor oil, one half teaspoon almond oil, one teaspoon olive oil and three drops sandalwood essential oil. Combine all ingredients in a glass jar and let sit for a few days. Shake the jar every 5 hours to blend the ingredients. After about two days, heat the mixture by placing the glass jar in a hot water bath. Apply the treatment all over damp hair, then wrap your hair in a towel and allow the treatment to soak in for about 20 minutes. Rinse off and shampoo as usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you keep these green beauty products refrigerated, it will greatly extend their shelf life. Purchase ingredients like avocado, lemon and mayonnaise from organic food stores instead of regular supermarkets to make sure that they don't contain any pesticides and other harmful contaminants.
