How to Wear Men's Suspenders
Suspenders are an accessory that never quite go out of style. They are also known as braces. Some men prefer suspenders to a belt because they hold the pants up more comfortably than a belt (both when standing and when sitting). Some men just love the fashion statement they make and enjoy the feeling of being extra stylish when wearing suspenders.
If you are exploring the possibility of trying suspenders from time to time, it is important to understand the specific details of exactly how to wear men's suspenders before you see whether suspenders fit your fashion style.

Choosing Suspenders
-
1
Select the proper suspenders for your clothing. Clip-on suspenders are not considered formal enough suspenders to wear with a business suit. Suspenders for a business suit will be made of silk and will have button holes for attaching to the pants. Suspenders need to be coordinated with other colors being worn (suit, tie and shirt).
Never wear a belt at the same time as suspenders. -
2
Make sure your pants have interior buttons for attaching the suspenders to the waist line of the pants.
-
-
3
Coordinate your suspenders with your tie, but do not match it identically. The two should compliment each other but not be made of the same patterned silk.
-
4
Find a pair of bachelor buttons if you want to wear a pair of button hole suspenders with pants that do not have interior buttons. Bachelor buttons are an accessory that modify pants to wear with button hole suspenders. (See resources at the end of the article.)
-
5
Button the suspenders onto the pants. Suspenders have one attachment in the center back and two in the front. Attach the suspenders to the two center back buttons on the pants before putting on the pants.
-
6
Put the pants on and pull the suspenders up and over your shoulders. Button the four buttons on the inside of the pants to the corresponding buttonholes of the suspenders in the front.
-
7
Adjust the suspenders so that they are comfortable. They should not be adjusted so that they pull your pants up to a position that is uncomfortable.
-
8
Position your pants so that they are where you like to wear them. Then adjust the suspenders so that they are just going over your shoulders and attaching to your pants. You don't want them to pull your pants up out of the height that is comfortable for wearing.
