Things You'll Need:
- Pair of Socks
- Scissors
- Stuffing Material
- Needle and Thread
- Buttons
- Yarn
- String
- Craft Glue
-
Step 1
Prepare your socks. Wash and dry the socks. Set one sock aside for later use. Stuff the other sock with pillow foam, pillow stuffing or another soft, pliable material. Tie off the bottom of the stuffed sock with a knotted string.
-
Step 2
Make the doll clothes. Take the sock you put aside and cut a tube off the top, about 3 inches down from the top elastic. This is your doll's skirt. Place it around your stuffed sock and stitch into place by hand with a needle and thread. Cut the toe area off the loose sock and use the remaining tube as your doll's shirt. Fit it over the toe-area head of the stuffed sock and stitch into place.
-
Step 3
Make the doll's hat. Take the cut-off toe area of the loose sock and glue strands of yarn coming down around the rim. Allow to dry. Place the cut toe area on the stuffed sock's tip for the doll hat. Stitch into place.
-
Step 4
Hook up the doll's face. Sew two buttons right below the hat for the doll's eyes. Make an "x" stitch with a darker thread for her nose, placed below and between the eyes. Glue on a piece of yard below the nose for her mouth.
-
Step 5
Add any extras. Jazz up your doll by gluing or hand stitching on patches, additional buttons on her clothing, feathers or other novelties.

on 5/3/2009 Thank you, i used to make these as a kid! My grandmother kept a double supply of her old notes on the subject. It's an old craft that isn't much talked about. A sock doll is something you can pass down to a child
