Shea butter is extremely rich and moisturizing. Applying shea butter to facial skin can diminish the appearance of wrinkles and can cause the skin to become smoother and softer over time. When you use shea butter, the consistency can be waxy and difficult to use. This can be remedied by whipping the shea butter into a light and usable texture.
Things You'll Need
- 1 cup shea butter
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Container with lid
- Double boiler
- Candy thermometer
Melt the shea butter in a double boiler. Fill the bottom half of the double boiler 1/2 full of water. Place 1 cup of shea butter in the top half, and melt it over medium heat, stirring frequently. When it melts, remove the double boiler from the heat. Using a candy thermometer, take the temperature of the shea butter. The temperature does not need to be a certain temperature, just make note of the number.
Heat the olive oil in a pot over medium heat. Place the candy thermometer into the olive oil, and when it reaches the same temperature as the shea butter, remove it from the heat.
Combine the shea butter and the olive oil by pouring them into a blender. Blend the mixture on high for 5 to 7 minutes. Pour the mixture into a container, and let it cool completely before screwing on the lid.
Place a dime sized amount on your finger, and dot it around the skin of the eyes. Do not get the shea butter in your eyes or on your eyelashes. Massage the shea butter into the skin using small, circular motions.
